Low carb diet benefits include weight loss, lowered cholesterol, and reduced risk for diabetes. Here’s a list of 50 low carb recipes to get you started.
Are you looking for some delicious recipes to get all the low carb diet benefits? I’ve been publishing delicious low carb recipes on this blog for a little over 5 years. A lot of folks have told me it’s hard to find my best recipes since the site has become quite large over the years. So, I spent some time putting together a list of my TOP 50 Low Carb Recipes based on the number of views each recipe has received. But, before I get to that list, I’d like to grab your attention on a public health issue I am very passionate about.
Did you know that the United States government reviews and updates it’s dietary guidelines every 5 years? You may recall the Food Pyramid, MyPyramid and the latest MyPlate images. Well, it has been five years since the last update and there is a big fight in Washington as to whether the guidelines are truly being based on science backed studies. You see, there’s a history of wrong-doing when it comes to writing these guidelines like eating eggs will lead to high cholesterol levels. The information that has been put out by the U.S. government regarding a healthy diet has led to a serious epidemic of obesity and diabetes in the country ever since these guidelines first began to promote a low fat diet back on the 1980’s. Coincidence? I don’t think so!
Over the last 30 years, the US Dietary Guidelines have been setting the standard for food labeling and school lunches. Following these guidelines has set a trend of fatter and sicker Americans. This trend is just going to get worse the longer we let politicians set the guidelines based on the low fat myth and pressure from food industry lobbying groups. Rather than continuing to promote fat as the enemy, the nutrition guidelines need to be based on science backed data that supports a lower carbohydrate diet rich in healthy saturated fats. Fats are required for sustainability and help stabilize blood sugar. In fact, scientific research shows that 50-80% of the calories that people eat should come from healthy fat. So, let’s not forget the importance of low carb high fat foods like butter, nuts, coconut oil, avocados, and bacon!
A large number of clinical research over recent years has shown that low carb high fat diets are effective in treating and preventing diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. However, the US Government has ignored these science backed studies and continues to push a low fat diet in the US Dietary Guidelines!
From my own personal experience, I have lost over 25 pounds and maintained a healthy weight by eating a diet completely against the nutritional guidance set by the government. I have been following a low carb diet for almost 15 years and I’ve never had trouble with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, being overweight, or become diabetic like other members of my family.
I don’t usually like to discuss politics on this website, but I am very passionate about living a healthier life through the low carb way of eating. If you are too, I encourage you to stand up and have your voice heard. There is a petition on the change.org website demanding that quality science determine the 2015 U.S. Dietary Guidelines. I assure you that your information will never be sold and you won’t receive any spam email as a result of signing the petition. I signed my name as soon as I learned about it!
Help support the fight against wrongly promoting low fat as the healthiest diet. Low fat diets are high in sugar and starches that put people at risk for unnecessary weight gain and health issues such as diabetes and high cholesterol.
